Ioanide-Culi Residence
In 2004, R&B designed and built a backyard cottage behind an 1895 Victorian home in NE Portland’s Eliot neighborhood. The home is a testament to sustainability, multi-generational living, and courtyards as private gathering spaces in urban settings.
The Vision
Newlyweds and architecture interns Ray & Beate were in search of a new home in a walkable neighborhood with good access to mass public transit. They found a property with an 1895 Victorian home in inner-northeast Portland, located in a multi-dwelling zone. Their vision was to design and build a second home allowing for future multi-generational living.
